Lock Change Service in Newcastle and North Tyneside

There are several situations where changing your locks is not optional - it is the only sensible thing to do. When you move into a new home. When keys are lost or stolen. After a break-in. When a tenancy ends and you cannot confirm all keys have been returned. Moorside Locksmiths carry out lock changes across Newcastle and North Tyneside with a same-day service in most cases, no call-out fee, and all costs confirmed before we start. Call us on 07968 567171.

WHEN TO CHANGE YOUR LOCKS

Moving into a new home You have no way of knowing how many copies of the keys exist from previous owners, their family, their tradespeople, or their neighbours. Changing the cylinders is the only way to guarantee you control access to your new property. We recommend doing it before you move your possessions in.

Lost or stolen keys If your keys are lost, anyone who finds them has access to your home-especially if your address is identifiable from anything on your keyring. Changing the cylinder is quicker and cheaper than the alternative.

After a burglary or break-in Forced entry typically damages or compromises the lock mechanism. A lock that has been attacked may appear functional but no longer provides reliable security. It needs replacing, not just re-locking.

End of tenancy As a landlord or letting agent, changing the cylinder between tenancies is standard practice. Without it, you cannot account for all the key copies that may have been cut during the tenancy.

Lock worn or failing Cylinders and mechanisms wear over years of use. If your key is increasingly difficult to turn, or the lock does not feel as positive as it once did, it is worth replacing before it fails entirely - ideally not at 11pm on a Saturday.

WHAT WE CHANGE

We carry out lock changes on all common door types including:

  • uPVC doors - euro cylinder replacement, multipoint mechanisms

  • Wooden doors - mortice deadlocks, rim locks, sashlocks

  • Composite doors - euro cylinder and mechanism replacement

  • Communal entrance doors - cylinder replacement for HMOs and flats

  • Commercial premises - office, retail, and commercial lock changes

We also carry out re-keying where appropriate - changing the internal pins of a lock cylinder so that old keys no longer work, without replacing the full mechanism.

We supply and fit insurance-approved locks from Chubb, Yale, UNION, and ASSA, including anti-snap cylinders and BS3621-standard mortice deadlocks.

FAQs

How quickly can you change my locks in Newcastle?

In most cases same day. We carry the most common cylinder and lock sizes as van stock. Call us on 07968 567171 and we can usually give you a same-day appointment.

Should I change the locks or just re-key them?

Re-keying (changing the internal pins so old keys do not work) is a cheaper option where the existing lock is in good condition and the right security standard. If the lock is old, worn, or below insurer requirements, replacement is better value. We advise on the right option for your situation.

Do you do lock changes for landlords?

Yes, regularly. We carry out tenancy changeover lock changes and re-keying for landlords and letting agents across Newcastle and North Tyneside. If you manage multiple properties, get in touch to discuss repeat-use arrangements.

Can you match the new lock to my existing keys?

In some cases yes, through re-keying. If you want a new cylinder keyed to match an existing key profile so you only carry one key, we can advise on whether that is possible for your door.

Do you change locks on wooden doors as well as uPVC?

Yes. We carry out mortice lock, sash lock, and rim lock replacements on wooden doors alongside euro cylinder changes on uPVC and composite doors.
