High Security Lock Installation in Newcastle and North Tyneside
A standard lock on a front door provides a baseline level of security that many experienced burglars can defeat in seconds. High security locks - cylinders and deadlocks rated to recognised standards - make forced entry significantly harder, slower, and noisier, which is usually enough to deter an opportunistic burglar. Moorside Locksmiths supply and fit high security locks across Newcastle and North Tyneside, including TS007 3-star cylinders and BS3621 mortice deadlocks. Call us on 07968 567171.
WHAT MAKES A LOCK HIGH SECURITY?
TS007 - The cylinder standard TS007 is a British Standard that applies to euro cylinders. It tests resistance to snapping, picking, drilling, and bumping. A 3-star TS007 cylinder achieves the maximum rating across all four attack types. This is what police crime prevention officers and most home insurers now recommend for uPVC and composite door cylinders.

BS3621 - The deadlock standard BS3621 is the British Standard for mortice deadlocks on wooden doors. It requires 5-lever mechanisms, anti-saw hardened steel bolts, and a drill-resistant plate. Most home insurers require BS3621 compliance on external wooden doors as a condition of cover.

What these standards mean in practice A lock that meets TS007 3-star and a deadlock that meets BS3621 make a property substantially harder to break into using the most common attack methods. They will not make a door impenetrable, but they make forced entry slow, noisy, and difficult enough that most opportunistic burglars move on.

FAQs
What is the difference between a 1-star and 3-star TS007 cylinder?

TS007 cylinders are rated by the number of security properties they achieve. A 1-star cylinder resists one attack type, a 3-star resists snapping, picking, drilling, and bumping. For front door security, 3-star is the recommended standard.

Will a high security lock affect my insurance premium?

Some insurers offer reduced premiums or improved cover terms for properties with TS007 3-star or BS3621-rated locks. Check your policy or call your insurer. We can confirm the rating of any lock we fit.

Can I upgrade my existing lock to high security without changing the whole door?

In most cases yes. A euro cylinder in a uPVC or composite door can be swapped for a 3-star TS007 cylinder without any other changes to the door. A mortice lock in a wooden door can similarly be replaced with a BS3621-rated alternative.

Do you carry out security assessments for residential properties?

Yes. We can attend, assess all external door and window locks, and give you a clear report on what meets current standards and what should be upgraded. Call us on 07968 567171 to arrange a visit.
