Garage Door Lock Repair and Replacement | Newcastle and North Tyneside
Garages are frequently the most poorly secured part of a property. Many garage doors have basic or worn lock mechanisms that offer minimal resistance, and where the garage is attached to the house or has an internal door into the property, a compromised garage door becomes a route into the home itself. Moorside Locksmiths repair and replace garage door locks across Newcastle and North Tyneside on all common garage door types. Call us on 07968 567171.
GARAGE DOOR TYPES WE COVER
Up-and-over garage doors The most common type across residential properties. These typically use a central T-handle mechanism with a lock cylinder. Common issues include worn cylinders, failed locking bars, and handles that have become loose or broken. We repair and replace T-handle mechanisms and cylinders.

Roller garage doors Motorised roller doors are primarily secured by the motor mechanism, but manual roller doors have a separate lock. We advise on and install additional security for roller doors, including external locks and locking bars.
Side-hinged garage doors These open like traditional doors and can be secured with mortice locks, padlocks, or multi-point locking bars. We assess what is fitted and upgrade where needed.

Sectional garage doors Similar security considerations to roller doors - we advise on additional locking points for manual sectional doors.
ADDITIONAL SECURITY MEASURES
For any garage door type, we can advise on and fit:

-
Garage defender - a floor-mounted steel post that prevents the door from being lifted or forced
-
Steel bolt locks - heavy-duty surface bolts that engage with the floor or frame
-
Additional padlock points - fitting padlock hasps to provide an extra locking point
FAQs
My garage door T-handle is broken and the door will not lock. Can you fix it?

Yes. T-handle mechanism replacement is one of the most common garage door lock jobs we carry out. We carry common replacements as van stock.

Is a padlock enough security for my garage door?

A quality padlock on a properly fitted steel hasp is a reasonable security measure, but the quality of the hasp fitting matters as much as the padlock itself. We can assess and advise on the right solution for your door type.

My garage has an internal door into the house. Should I secure that too?

Yes, absolutely. An internal garage door should be treated as an external door security-wise - fitted with a proper mortice deadlock at minimum. We can assess and upgrade it at the same time as the garage door.
